With regular maintenance, generators used as a form of back-up data centre power provision, can be an efficient and reliable form of onsite emergency power generation.
Main differences in types of generator are the size of the system, the fuel tank as well as whether diesel, bio-diesel or natural gas is used.
There are also diesel rotary UPS systems, which combine the generator and the UPS into one unit.
The power to the data centre is provided by an alternator, which is usually driven by the mains supply.
Therefore in the event of power failure, a large flywheel would keep the alternator rotating, whilst the diesel engine starts.
Once the engine is running, a clutch engages and the alternator is driven by the engine.
At 2bm we design & install generators as part of a data centre build or as a stand alone project.
2bm also offer a maintenance package and maintenance upgrades.
