Network switches are usually positioned at the top rear of the cabinet, away from the cold aisle airflow. Therefore switches are often exposed to elevated temperatures as it is difficult for cold air to flow from the front of the rack to the air intakes of the network switch equipment.
The chassis units sit underneath or above the switch and recover and channel the cool air from the front of the rack to the rear.
This is an economical way to cool data centre switches as it can help lower operating costs and PUE with no required downtime. It can also prolong the life of your equipment.
