2bm’s Marianne King is a keen member of ‘The Soul Sisters’ women-only boxing and fitness group from Derby.

The group decided that they fancied a bit of a new challenge!

So on Saturday the 18th May, nineteen members of the group, spanning a range of mixed fitness abilities, hired a house near Harlech beach in North Wales for a weekend of outdoor activities.

The weekend started with a game of rounders before setting off at 7am on Saturday morning for a 45-minute drive to Snowdonia National Park in Gwynedd and the main challenge for the weekend – a climb to the top of Mount Snowdon.

It was a beautiful clear day for our 1,085 metre ascent up the highest mountain in Wales. Commencing around 8am, the views on our journey up the mountain were truly breathtaking. However, by the time we reached the summit around noon, the weather had deteriorated and was now very cold and wet with little or no visibility.

Having rested for a while, we began the descent, which actually proved harder than going up the mountain. By the time we reached the foot of the mountain for our journey back to Harlech, the consensus amongst our group was that everyone had really enjoyed the experience.

Marianne is eagerly looking forward to the next Soul Sisters challenge!
