We would like to welcome Martin, who joins us with over 10 years of experience as a turnkey engineer, delivering both electrical and mechanical design.
In joining the company in a period of unprecedented growth, we asked Martin why 2bm was the right career move for him.
“I knew of 2bm as data centre design specialists and had seen a number of their projects, including several aisle containment systems. The quality always impressed me in terms of the materials used and the high spec and efficiency of the systems they created.”
“Having gone as far as I could with my previous employer, 2bm offers me the opportunity to go to the next level.
“It’s a calm environment at 2bm, all the staff are friendly and very welcoming.”
”While I have found there is the intensity needed to deliver projects on time, the atmosphere is so much calmer and more methodical than I’ve encountered before.”
“Problems are dealt with and resolved as a group. Which is reassuring to be part of a team, where you feel you can draw upon the support of others.”
Here’s what Martin had to say about what ‘life’s like away from work’:
What would you cook at a dinner party?
I’m actually a terrible cook, so my immediate answer would be ‘a takeaway’ served on plates, so it looks like I prepared it. Despite being a diabetic, I would get some chocolate brownies, I love them.
What’s your secret talent that no one knows about?
I guess it has to be that I can complete a Rubik’s cube in under five minutes.
What’s your favourite movie?
I am a big fan of the whole SAW franchise; I hate blood and gore but love the puzzles and how all the films interlink. I like going back and watching the older ones looking for the clues that are revealed in the later films.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
I’m not a runner by any stretch of the imagination, but for a bet, I once ran the London Marathon dressed as Olaf, the snowman from Frozen. I don’t enjoy running, but I have to say that the whole atmosphere, with a huge crowd, was one of the best experiences of my life.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy cycling, in particular around Sutton Park. Spending time with my kids too, as I have two girls, the youngest is three going on thirteen and my eldest is nine. I play golf occasionally in the summer with friends, but I’m no good at it, so tend to be very selective about who I play with.
Where is your holiday destination?
That’s a good question. I’ve never been to the Caribbean but would like to go there, the same applies to the US. I love Greece and have been there many times, love the culture and the people.
Where did you go to school?
Hazelwick Secondary School in Crawley, West Sussex.
What was your first job?
My first experience of working was near Gatwick, stacking dry store air food for consumption on aircraft.
What star sign are you?
I’m a Gemini and, yes, I have a split personality. At work I’m highly professional, forceful, always wanting to get things done, at home I’m an extremely relaxed and laid back dad.
If you were a superhero, which one would you be?
I would be Ironman, as this superhero is very believable. Plus the whole concept of engineering and building a suit is incredible and something I would love to be able to achieve.
Do you love or hate marmite?
I love it, it’s incredible.
What’s your dream car?
I have to admit my ideas change on cars. Right now, I want a Tesla, as I love the idea of cars becoming more controlled by AI technology. For me the more technology the better!
Anything else you’d like to tell us?
I’m a keen green footprint man, so everything that could be recycled, gets recycled. At home, we try and minimise our footprint as much as possible as I firmly believe we all have a responsibility to look after the environment.
Why have you joined 2bm?
I believe I can play an important role in helping move the company forward, and already feel valued and an integral part of the team. I was at my last company for almost 10 years, so I plan on using my experience to improve the way 2bm thinks about design and build.
